DIVISION II Coach of the Year, Coming to the Kings Soccer Academy

Wilder, KY – Kings Soccer Academy is proud to announce the latest addition to the coaching staff, Northern Kentucky University’s (NKU) Head Men’s Soccer Coach John Basalyga.

Coach Basalyga, whom was hired by Kevin McCloskey (Kings Boys Director of Coaching), will take over the U17 and U18 Boys Gold teams. “The addition of a nationally recognized coach such as Coach Basalyga, to the Kings Coaching Staff, is a tremendous accomplishment,” Kevin McCloskey said. “I’m excited about the addition but more excited for the young men that will benefit under Coach Basalyga’s leadership and guidance.”
Since his arrival at NKU in 2003, Coach Basalyga has transformed the men’s soccer program into a national powerhouse. The program has improved exponentially every year, with every imaginable school record having been surpassed during his tenure. Basalyga, is no stranger to the Kings family as it was a collaborative effort between John Basalyga and the Kings that helped facilitate Steven Beattie’s being drafted in the 2010 Major League Soccer draft.
Coach Basalyga famously steered the NKU Norse Men’s team to its first NCAA National Championship in 2010, but the coveted title is only one of several pinnacles for Basalyga during an illustrious coaching career. Basalyga’s coaching exploits at previous soccer minnows Turpin High School are legendary, with the successful coach amassing an unbelievable 325 wins, 3 State Titles, and the honor of being named Ohio High School Coach of the year in 2001.
The Kings are excited to have the opportunity to work closely with Coach Basalyga, who has become universally respected for his ability to not only produce highly accomplished soccer players, but to also nurture individual player character. Basalyga is in the business of transforming boys into men, and one of his biggest assets is his masterful ability to bring the best out of every player he coaches, regardless of skill level. This bodes well for all young players at Kings, and points to a very bright future for the club.
The Kings Soccer Academy looks forward to a formidable and fruitful partnership with John Basalyga, and would like this opportunity to officially welcome him and his family to the Kings.
